Introduction

iBlue Installer CD is a customized Debian Linux

Pre-requirements:

  • An x86 Compatible PC (preferred to be PIII class or higher) with 128MB of System Memory.
  • 1 GB Hard disk or Flash storage 1).
  • Ethernet Card or embedded Ethernet Interface 2).
  • 2-16 USB Bluetooth radios connected.
  • A keyboard and monitor 3).

Please note that iBlue performance will vary too much depending on hardware configuration, number and quality of bluetooth radios attached.

Installation

Easy installation using iBlue® CD:

WARNING: Booting the iBlue® CD will instantly erase all data on your hard drive. It is intended only for fully automatic installation. Please note that iBlue® CD can only be installed on PCs that can accept Debian Etch default installation. Otherwise, you will have to use the iBlue® Universal Installer binary.

Burning your .iso file:

Once you have downloaded the .iso file, you will need to burn it to CD. You can use any CD burning tool to burn the .iso Click here to see a tutorial on how to burn .iso file in Windows or click here to see a tutorial on how to burn .iso file in Ubuntu Linux.

Network configuration:

By default, the installer CD will use the following network configuration:

  • IP: 192.168.1.2
  • Gateway: 192.168.1.1
  • DNS: 192.168.1.1

If you do not know your network configuration or how to setup this network configuration, read Network configuration troubleshooting, and Setting up simple network for installing iBlue CD documents. Please note that you can freely change your network configuration as soon as you have completed product activation. For installing using other network configuration, please check Advanced installation using iBlue® Universal Installer section of this document.

Installation:

  • If you have downloaded the installation CD, you will have to use a burning software to burn the .iso file to a physical CD.
  • Please make sure that target PC is configured to primarily boot from CD-ROM.
  • Insert iBlue CD, and boot up the target PC.
  • If your CD does not boot successfully or does not boot at all, check Troubleshooting PC boot form CD/DVD drives.
  • Installation will fully automatic proceed until you are prompted to reboot.
  • Once system is rebooted, you will not need to do anything locally to your PC. You will not need to use the attached keyboard or monitor too. Instead, please proceed to Activating the LongArm software section of this document.
  • If you receive any error messages during installation, check the requirements and repeat the procedure, or alternatively try Advanced installation using iBlue® Universal Installer
  • If done successfully, please proceed to Activating the LongArm software section of this document.

Known Issues:

Advanced installation using iBlue® Universal Installer:

The iBlue Universal Installer is designed to assist you installing LongArm software on most debian-based Linux systems. The iBlue Universal Installer should be used only if you cannot use the automatic installation CD, or the target system does not support Debian Etch default installation. The iBlue Universal Installer can install LongArm software on most of Debian-based Linux distributions like Ubuntu.

Pre-requirements:

  • A perfectly installed Debian or Ubuntu system on target PC.
  • Target PC should be able to connect to internet.

Installation:

  • First make sure that the following packages are installed on the system:

bluetooth libbluetooth2 libopenobex1 php5 php5-curl php5-cgi php5-cli lighttpd php5-mcryp

  • You can simply install requirements by:

# apt-get install bluetooth libbluetooth2 libopenobex1 php5 php5-curl php5-cgi php5-cli lighttpd php5-mcrypt

  • For Ubuntu systems, you should use sudo bt default:

$ sudo apt-get install bluetooth libbluetooth2 libopenobex1 php5 php5-curl php5-cgi php5-cli lighttpd php5-mcrypt

Installation on NorhTec MicroClient Jr.:

I have added these special instructions on installation on NorthTec MicroClient Jr. as being a recommended platform. A Special pre-installed ready image will be available soon for the MicroClient Jr. Although it takes a longer time, iBlue can be successfully installed on the MicroClient Jr. using the installation CD.

Configuring your MicroClient Jr. BIOS

In order to enable safe shutdown using soft power button, you should do some configuration steps to your MicroClient Jr. Bios. To enter the BIOS menu, just press the [Delete] button right after switching on your MicroClient Jr. then follow the following steps:

  1. In [Standard CMOS Setup]: Make sure that the [Pri Master] is set to [Auto] and make sure that system date is correct.
  2. In [Advanced CMOS Setup]: Set the following configuration:
  • Set [1st Boot Device] to [USB CD-ROM].
  • Set [2nd Boot Device] to [IDE-0].
  1. In [Advanced Chipset Setup]: Make sure that [Beep Function] is set to [Enabled].
  2. In [Power Management Setup]: Set the following configuration:
  • Set [ACPI aware O/S] to [Yes].
  • Set [Power Management] to [Enabled].
  • Set [Restore on AC/Power Loss] to [Power On].

Finally, Save and Exit BIOS Setup Menu.

Activating the LongArm software

Once installation is completed, use another PC connected to the same network and navigate your web browser to http://192.168.1.2 You should see this:

1) In case of using Flash storage, It is recommended to use high speed CompactFlash cards. Other Flash storage may be acting too slow.
2) Please check network configuration section from more information about network configuration required.
